A newspaper clipping from November of 1944, giving credit to the men who make up the ground crew at Middleton St. George.

Very seldom mentioned in the newspapers or books the work of the ground trades went on no matter what the weather. The only time the aircraft were in hangers was when major work was needed. The remainder of the time the work is carried out at the dispersal pad often some distance from the part stores and work shop of the main area of the base.

The F/S Fred Sinclair mentioned happened to be the one my father reported while he was also stationed at MSG, and I had met him a number of times during the 1950's and 60's. My father and he were good friends all the rest of their lives.

The information given may not be fully correct, the news articles were seen and collected by German Intelligence so some facts were actually mis-information.

The aircraft mentioned "J" for Johnny was VR-R, KB762 also known as "Jiggs". Named after the cartoon figure Jiggs of the comic strip Maggie and Jiggs, some times called Bringing Up Father. KB762 was written off in April of 1945 after a crash landing destroyed the undercarriage. It had taken part in over 75 operations.
This photo of Jiggs is actually a photo of a photo Vince Elmer had in his collection, and was copied at the 1977 Reunion attended by my father along with Fred Sinclair and Vince Elmer.
