A PHOTO WITH A STORY
Of the two photos at the top the one at the right matches up with the one on the left which has been around our house for about 60 years. The one at the left I found in an old file of my dad's on Lt. Hartshorn DFC USAAF.
The wording on the photo: "When Joe Hartshorn saw his bombing photos after a raid on Normandy in the summer of 1944 he got a shock. Perfectly framed in the center of the photo was KB745 VR-R flown by F/O Rokeby. Apparently neither crew saw each other, which was probably just as well"
The message would seem to indicate that KB745 may not have made it back from the operation if either the Lancaster taking the photo had dropped bombs on it or from maneuvers the the Lancaster above could have made into it's path.
