The airfield at Croft is now a motor racing circuit but parts of the runway still survive whilst others have been incorporated into the circuit itself . Most of the buildings have been demolished although a few do survive on the dispersed sites away from the airfield itself . The fortified building in the photos is the Battle Headquarters , BHQ , which is sited up on the railway embankment overlooking the airfield and still remains in good condition today. If the airfield was ever attacked by air or land the station CO and his staff would go to the BHQ and control the defence of the airfield from there. The landscape shot shows the BHQ hidden by the shrubs. There are a few small light aircraft based here and they fly off what was part of the main runway as shown in the photos, taking off to the west . The plaque was dedicated on Sunday 12 May 2002 and I was there ! It was one of the last big RCAF reunions , the plaque is mounted on the wall of the race control building and was unveiled by Reg Lane .
