Crew of Wellington X3715

Wellington X3715 squadron ID VR-G took off from Mildenhall for an operation on the aircraft engine plant of Gnome-Rhone at Gennevilliers. Only one other 419 Wellington took part in this hazardous low level attack. Both crews were picked for their experience.
S/L Wolfe and crew manned the second 419 aircraft, they reported that the blast from their bombs on thia low level attack rocked their Wellington. Wolfe also reported that the anti-aircraft defences in the area were very active.
Cavaghan's Wellington most likely was hit by this anti-aircraft fire. The aircraft was brought down at Argenteuil 7km. North of Paris. All the crew were killed on the operation.
P/O Cavaghan was one of the original squadron pilots, starting his time with the squadron in January of 1942. From February 16th until the operation on May 30th., he and his crew had completed 20 operations. Cavaghan had also completed two operations as 2nd Pilot.
