The tragic story behind the photographer of the funeral of X3711 crew.
The brave lady who took the clandestine photos was Mary Lippens, daughter of the Count Maurice Lippens August.
She and her husband Jean del Marmol were members of the Belgian Secret Army.
The SS and Gestapo both were hunting for her husband unsuccessfully. They then arrested Mary
and sent her to Germany and Ravensbruck concentration camp.
Her treatment at the camp was brutal picking on her constantly and beating her almost everyday.
On September 8th 1944 she died from the beatings and forced hard labour, never giving in to her captors.
Her husband Jean survived the war and by some odd coincidence died on September 3rd the same date as
given for the crew of X3711.
After the war her husband built a small chapel in memory of his wife. Here are 2 recent pictures
of the chapel with the epitaph : "she died as a martyr in the camp Belzig on 8th september 1944"
