Section Officer "Nita" Tory was present at the second visit to 419 Squadron of the King and Queen in August 1944. In
this photo she is part of the officer contingent , standing at attention behind the Queen.
Section Officer was the
WAAF equivalent of Flying Officer.
The Canadian government was always mindful of the images of the women and men overseas presented to their families back home.
They had numerous "staged" photos taken at bases all over Britain. The idea was to show the folks back home that
their loved ones overseas were happy and comfortable.
The photographers would set up these photo sessions, getting officers to grab someone to be in the photo, whether they
were shown carrying out their own trade or just filling in. Anything just to make the photographs show smiling faces away from home.
