Crew of Lancaster KB800

Canadian built Lancaster KB800 took part in “Operation Hurricane” a massive attack with some 1013 heavy bombers on Duisburg.
Forty Lancasters gathered from both 419 as well as from 428 Squadron at Middleton St. George were on the this raid. The KB800 on it’s first operation was hit by flak near the starboard engines causing the aircraft to spin and later explode just prior to the order to bail out. The pilot F/O A M Roy who was thrown out of the aircraft by the blast of the explosion which dstroyd KB800, fell to about 5,000 feet before coming to. He landed in a group of flak gunners and was immediately captured. He was interned at Stalag Luft III. Not learning about what happened to his crew until after the war.
