Crew of Lancaster KB750

Lancaster KB750 squadron ID VR-N took off at 2041 from Middleton St. George.
After bombing the target and as survivor F/S McTaggart expressed it going "full out" to get out of the T/A a single burst of flak hit the Lancaster as it passed between Wiesbaden and Mainz.
P/O Martin gave the order to jump but only the rear gunner McTaggart successfully escaped the falling and burning aircraft. McTaggart estimates that the Lancaster was hit while at 14,000 feet and it was near 4,000 to 5,000 feet from the ground when he managed to get free.
F/S McTaggart landed within 300 yards of where the Lancaster and crashed and exploded a few minutes earlier. He was soon captured and brought back to the crash site where he saw articles belonging to the crew. He was then processed and sent to taken to hospital where it appears he stayed until liberated. The crew were on their twelfth operation since their arrival from 61 Base in early October of 1944. The crew's operations were well spread out during that time.P/O Martin was on his 14th. sortie.
