Crew of Wellington BK335

Wellington BK335 squadron ID VR-Y crashed and burned after an engine failure on take off in the immediate area of the Croft airdrome at around 1443 October 10th 1942. This aircraft serial number does not show on earlier Ops Log entries and may have been a new arrival to the squadron. In the crash two members of the crew were killed while four others were severely injured. Sgt. Scobie one of the most severely injured died the following day October 11th. around 1240. All records show the date for Sgt. Scobie as the 10th. Only the Squadron Appendices and his home town paper show it was the 11th. The funeral for the three airmen was held at Darlington Cemetery in Durham
